MERA
PEAK TREK
Mera peak trek is officially the highest of the permitted
trekking peaks of the kingdom. Rising to the south of Everest,
it dominates the heavily wooded but inhabited valley of the
Hinku and Houge Drangkas and is not truly part of the Khumbu.
First climbed in 1953 by Jimmy Roberts and Sen Tenzing who
made the first western exploration of these areas, it wasn’t
climbed again till 1975. There are no easy approaches to Mera
and some require two crossing of high and difficult passes
but it makes for a real adventure. But there’s the pleasure
of being rewarded with the magnificent views.
